Interpretation

    • BAG 1 = METAL (IRON) Colour - orangey-brown. Shape - #1&2 are strap fragments with flat shape distorted by corrosion. Each fragment is double layered. #3-13 are irregular shaped and show no evidence of containing a strap. Three of the smallest fragments could be pieces that have broken off a larger fragment. Surface - rough and irregular Weight = #1 - 8g: #2 - 5g; #3 - 5g: #4 - 3g: #5 - <1g: #6-13 <1g (total) Dimensions = #1 - 27 x 25 x 11mm: #2 - 25 x 25 x 13mm: #3 - 28 x 17 x 11mm: #4 - 23 x 15 x 11mm: #5 - 14 x 9.5 x 8.5mm: ~6-13 all smaller (9.5 x 5.2 x 3.7mm minimum) BAG 2 = COFFIN FURNITURE Colour - orangey-brown. Shape two parallel iron straps (approx. 20-21mm wide and 5mm thick) embedded in mud and corrosion. Surface - irregular Weight = 190 Dimensions = 108.9 x 48.8 x 56.6mm BAG 3 = METAL OBJECT Colour - mid/red-brown. Shape - various shapes and sizes. All distorted by corrosion with some containing wood. #1 contains a broken strap. #2 resembles a large nail head (flat and circular). #7 contains a nail head and attached fragment of shaft with a small wood fragment running at right angles to the shaft. Surface - rough and irregular. Weight = #1 - 121g; #2 - 15g; #3 - 11g; #4 - 9g; #5 - 11g; #6 - 5g; #7 - 7g; #8 - 5g; #9 - 5g; #10 - 3g Dimensions = #1 - 76 x 57 x 45mm; #2 - 38 x 34 x 13mm; #3 - 29 x 24 x 24mm; #4 - 29 x 38 x 13mm; #5 - 29 x 29 x 19mm; #6 - 31 x 20 x 15mm; #7 - 28 x 25 x 19mm; #8 - 25 x 19 x 15mm; # 9 - 25 x 21 x 17mm; #10 - 22 x 19 x 10mm
