Narrative

    • A large charnel pit identified in 2021. The edges of the feature are not yet fully seen. The bone in the pit was highly degraded and dissimilar to the preservation of the bone elsewhere on site. The charnel pit may relate to the construction of the lime kiln/ Norman priory, the quantity of bone is great enough that could relate to major building works, and could have been left open during building, hence the poor condition of the bone.
