Short Description:
Cut of grave containing SK2534 in ditch
Issued to
Ben Swain | 17/09/2023

Interpretation

    • Cut of a grave aligned W-E that truncates through ditch F707 at intervention [2505]. The cut itself was not fully visible due to similarity with the surrounding soil matrix, but was likely rectangular in plan with right angled/sub rounded corners aligned W-E in the early christian tradition. The discovery of yet another burial truncating ditch F707 is further evidence to support the hypothesis that the ditch itself is at least earlier than the early medieval cemetery and is also likely to be pre-monastic
