Short Description:
E-W aligned skeleton partially burned by the heat of the limekiln, in relationship slot between wall 2359 and limekiln
Issued to
Ben Swain | 01/10/2022

Interpretation

    • This skeleton was discovered just below the base of the limekiln and was exposed but not lifted. It became evident upon exposure that the upper half had been heavily burned by the intense heat of the limekiln just above. It was discovered in an intervention targeted to identify the relationship between wall 2359 and the limekiln. This relationship could be established without lifting the skeleton, so it remains in-situ as of the 2022 season.

    • This skeleton was lifted in the 2023 season. It was observed beneath the limekiln and partially burnt so must have been truncated by it above. It lies on top of a deposit of rubble that may have sunk into a feature below, a possible ditch, or related to the demolition of wall F722
