  • The day job is company Director.  Sounds very grand but actually run several of our family businesses.  Keep trying to retire but can never quite escape
  • I studied history and landscape archeology at UEA, Norwich., and gained a BA hons degree in 1994. Part  of my studies  included site survey of St Benets Abbey and various other sites. Of course it’s some time ago but the passion for the subject has never dimmed.  I’ve been intrigued by the island for many years having studied the history of the coming of Christianity to the north,  and the importance of Oswald, Aidan & Cuthbert.   The life of Bede and the Anglo Saxon Chronicles.  During my time on Lindisfarne I have often wondered where the first monastic site may have been and mused on the possibility of someone, some day finding  new evidence to add to the story.   I am delighted to be part of this project. From my first days of studies I’ve always been a great admirer of the late Mick Aston.  His ground breaking books had me hooked from the first.  I’m sure many historians and archaeologists today were similarly inspired and go on to follow in his giant footsteps.
