Basic Information
- Adult burial in southeast part of trench with neonatal burial next to it
Narrative
-
- An east-west aligned burial of an adult with a neonate in the central southern area of trench 2 (west). The adult was lying supine with arms crossed over the lower abdomen. Directly adjacent to the lower right leg were the fragile remains of a newborn or neonatal burial. Both individuals were likely buried together at the same time. Two upright stones were revealed to the left of the burial, indicating the slight possibility of stone lining, but no other evidence of this was found. Similar to most graves in the vicinity, the feature exists within the disturbed layer 2164 (interpreted as a graveyard soil) with no distinct cut visible. It may therefore be broadly contemporary with these, but further excavation would be needed to confirm this. No direct relationships to other features were observed.
