Short Description:
Cut of a ditch running NW-SE into Eastern bulk of trench 2 west visible within slot against eastern baulk

Interpretation
-
- Cut of a NW-SE linear ditch. This likely represents one of the earliest features on site as of the 2021 season. Two NE-SW aligned graves are cut into it. The ditch was only partially visible within the bounds of the LOE and so only a small portion of its width could be excavated in a 1.00m slot

- The excavation of this ditch continued in the 2022 season but its full depth and width were not revealed due to time constraints. At least four skeletons were visible truncating the ditch at this location and the ditch itself does not appear to truncate any other burials, suggesting it pre-dates the cemetery and must be one of the earliest features on site. One possible edge was located on the western side, but the base and eastern edge remain elusive. It is hoped that future excavations in the Northern half of TR2W will pick up the continuation of this ditch, possibly beneath the hollow/depression observed into which stone lined drain F724 and wall F723 appear to have sunk.
