- A small intervention was made through this deposit in the 2021 season measuring 0.50mx0.45m, revealing that this material is not part of the fill of the pit, as had been theorised, but is actually intense burning resultant from the use of the limekiln that has permeated through the natural (2344) to a depth of approximately 0.18m. Therefore, it appears that the base of the pit at least has been cut into the natural.

Description
- moderately compact
- variation in patches of burning, including very dark grey brown (near black) and a bright dark yellowish orange
- sandy clay
- some regular charcoal and burnt limestone patches and flecks,
- Within slot: Length - 4.50m Width - 4.15m Thickness - 0.18m
- First identified in 2020 season. Samples of this layer were taken for archaeomagnetic dating in 2020 season. In the 2021 season this layer was partially excavated in one small area revealing it to be burnt natural - a variation in temperature caused two distinct red and black discolourations
