Interpretation

- A clean compact orangey clay layer below 2164. This layer represents the earliest on site (as of 2020 season). Up to six possible grave cuts were visible cut into this layer. Anglo Saxon coins of Ethelred II were also discovered within and above it.

- As of 2020, not bottomed, unsure what context is stratigraphically below. 2020 small finds: 199 Lead Object x1 4g Irregular shape, Length: 22mm, Width: 4.5-12.5mm, Depth: 2-5mm, light brown with small white sections 202 Copper alloy Coin Medieval x1 1g Circular: 12x12mm diameter, Text on one side: EDILRED? With central circle of dots, text on other side: MONNE? Letters very spread with single central dot, dark grey, 1mm thick 203 Lead Object x1 2g Tear drop shape, length 11mm, width 7mm (at widest point), depth 2.5mm, slightly 'curled' like a petal, light brown/cream 204 Lead Object x1 11g Irregular shape, length 31mm (at longest point), width 17mm (at widest point), depth 10mm (at deepest point), light brown with white speckles
