Interpretation
-
- A layer of orangey clay intermixed with stoney material. Covering the entirety of this part of the trench, and with numerous Anglo Saxon graves cut into it, this may be part of a graveyard soil that has been consistently churned through the digging of graves. As a result, observing grave cuts in this layer was nearly impossible.
