Interpretation

    • This Romano-British cosmetic palette is made of white marble with a green serpentine pattern – possibly an old wall veneer. It is 8.27cm long and was found in a dark and difficult to reach area at the back of Victoria Cave. It was probably placed there sometime after 70AD in the context of a Romano-British cave cult. Accessioned in the T Lord Collection.

    • "(L. 8.27cm). Slightly trapezoidal with sloping edges, rather rounded corners and polished surfaces with some damage to the upper face. In a white marble with green serpentine banding, possibly cut from wall veneer."
