- Romano-British ivory sword pommel from Victoria Cave
Interpretation
-
- "(Max. Di. c.4.9cm; Ht. 5.98cm) Originally roughly oval in section with flat, polished base and sloping basal ends. Majority of 'back' broken away at an angle, top (?originally rounded and semi-conical) badly broken and part of original 'front' surface missing (though coarse ?tool marks and polish suggest continued use after damage.) [..] Apparently made from Elephant Ivory." Accessioned in the T Lord Collection.
