Interpretation

- The crest of a cranium from a hyena (Crocuta crocuta), showing the saggital crest which held the powerful jaw muscles. This specimen was found during the excavation in the 1870’s and belonging to the 125000-year-old Ipswichian interglacial. An example of the fauna that used Victoria Cave as a denning refuge, along with the cranium other examples of recovered hyena skeletal remains include Jaw and coprolite. It is currently archived in the Tot Lord collection in Yorkshire.
