Narrative

    • An intact stratigraphic deposit which has been truncated at the end by the 1870-74 excavations. The exposed section on the western side is 2.5m thick. There is some ancient graffiti on top of the fallen block, suggesting that the block has been exposed since the end of the 1870 excavations. This stratified deposit is on the line of the original cave section explored and excavated in 1837. The narrow chamber, as then, extended from the low cave mouth at UtU 304 through this section to UtU 303. This is the only surviving area of that original surface. This was allocated VA7 in LUAU 1995 survey (Quartermaine, J. 1995. Victoria and Albert Caves North Yorkshire: Archaeological Survey. Lancaster University Archaeological Unit. Lancaster)
