Interpretation
-
- A period of abandonment of the building is indicated by two rubble layers located at the east of the trench that are indicative of collapse (F709) (7026), (7018) at either side of the wall to the west (F703) composed of frequent medium sub-angular stones some sculptured pressed into the clay (F707)(7017), (7012). This suggests that the rubble collapsed from above and wedged into the clay at either side of the wall. Some sculptured architectural fragments including an oriel window, a rounded and ribbed mock half column corner stone and small chamfered roof tile with mortar were also discovered on top of the clay (7026) from on top of the first wall (F703) immediately to the west during machining.
