Interpretation

    • 99 sherds amounting to 1650g. From a large gabbroic jar, simple slack version of Type 4 cooking pot form. Unusually appears wheel made. Roman, mid 2nd to 5th centuries AD. Probably less than half the vessel is represented. Base angle sherds have a white clay "residue" adhering to the interior. Some sherds belong to a second jar. Linked to SF16 and SF26. Also present is a large rim sherd of a Type 21 gabbroic bowl (3rd and 4th centuries AD). (Henrietta Quinnell).
