    • Accumulated deposit beneath wall collapse (2003). Mid brown clayey silt with <5% mortar and <2% charcoal inclusions.

Narrative

    • A preserved occupation deposit was encountered beneath the collapse (2003) of wall (2004). This deposit comprised a medium compact mid brown clayish silt with limited mortar and charcoal inclusions. This occupation deposit overlay the construction horizon (2016) which had accumulated during the erection of the structure defined by walls (2004) and (2008). This deposit was buried beneath wall (2008).

Dating Narrative

    • Local wares (types 1, 5 and 7; including SF27) and Tees Valley ware (type B) potsherds recovered indicated a probable date range of AD1250-1350.
