Short Description:
Reddish brown clay leveling/foundation layer under 3023 in southern end of trench 3. Firm reddish brown slightly silty clay with very occasional stones.

Interpretation

    • Seemed to be largely natural layer sat directly on bedrock in varying degree of thickness. We dropped a 0.50m sondage into this context against wall 3021 and came down onto bedrock. We did get a small group of finds from this context but I'd interpret this as a naturally occurring layer that is at points interacted with by people and used as leveling/foundation material where they cut down to bedrock.
