Interpretation
-
- A silting layer in the southern end of trench 3. It was likely a post abandonment/demolition layer as it overlay the walls in the south of the trench. The layer contained animal bone, cbm and pottery, including a rather intriguing rim sherd which is difficult to date in the trench but may be roman or post-medieval, this will need confirming in post ex as it could effect the interpretation of the site as a whole. Under this layer there was a more solid slightly silty clay layer which may have been modified natural, as it could have been levelled when the wall foundations were made and the structures built.
