Interpretation

    • Initial interpretation of this layer is that it is a levelling deposit that has built up around the structures in trench 3, within the layer the finds are predominantly medieval, however one piece of china has been recovered so far. Not finished excavating it yet.

    • A gradual build up of silting with rubble in various densities through the layer, likely the same as (3004) in the southern half of the trench. Also it’s probably the same as (3003) a more dense rubble patch in the north and possibly the same as the cobbley patch (3002) in the nw corner of the trench.

    • Also it overlies the large n-s wall in the west of trench 3. Fairly even distribution of finds throughout with a greater concentration of nails in the north of the trench.
