Interpretation
-
- A north-south aligned wall forming the eastern wall of a building. This wall abuts the southern curtain wall (1008) and the east-west aligned wall (1002). This wall was constructed on top of a buried clay soil horizon (1018) that immediately overlies the limestone bedrock (1015). Three courses of masonry remained extant. The wall had been cut-back at its northern end to accommodate a rebuild of the east-west aligned wall (1002) which resulted in the appearance of wall (1003) abutting that of (1002) and it was therefore initially interpreted as being later. However, both walls are likely contemporary.
