Interpretation
-
- North facing wall of building additionally defined by walls (1003) and curtain wall (1008). A blocked doorway (1012) was observed towards the east end of the wall. The wall was probably originally thinner and rebuilt thicker at some point in time, as evidenced by the abutting relationship with wall (1003) and the cutting-back of the masonry at the north end of that wall. A single course of foundation stones projects from the base of the wall along its north face. The wall was built immediately on top of a buried clay soil horizon that lies over the limestone bedrock.
