Interpretation

    • Floor tile. Red sandy fabric with a reduced grey core and a leaf and tendril design standing out in relief. Green glazed. 32mm. C13th, provenance: Suffolk/E. Anglia. Potentially transported from Leiston's first site at Minsmere as part of the rebuild. CBM4: Variable orange/red to deep red soft sandy with moderate white quartz and occasional ironstone inclusions. The same design has been noted at Campsea Ash priory and also at Butley (Keen, L. 1971).
