Interpretation

    • Red oxidised sandy fabric with a white slip covering some of the surface then overglazed (same fabric as floor tiles SF 9 & 16). CBM4: Variable orange/red to deep red soft sandy with moderate white quartz and occasional ironstone inclusions. This tile, which has a white slip and clear overglaze, is a similar type to those produced at Danbury, Essex in the thirteenth and fourteen century (Drury, P.J. & Pratt, .D. 1975).
