- Trench 27 measured 3m by 15m. It was placed with the aims of assessing previously identified crop marks (1977) and geophysical anomalies and to recover dating evidence in order to establish the potential phasing of these features. While this trench shows evidence for contemporary agricultural disturbance F2701 visible as plough furrows running approximately North South features related to the original Abbey’s use were also identified. These consisted of a stone foundation F2702 cut and square foundation feature F2703 whose fill included rounded pebbles and cobbles fixed in lime mortar.
