- One of three small 3 x 3m trenches were located in this area (20, 21 and 22), a former allotment garden used recently when the site belonged to a Christian retreat. Trench 20 was positioned adjacent to a north-south driveway into the site - a potential candidate for the inner Abbey gatehouse. Results confirmed the presence of a substantail east - west aligned wall structure dasting to the late medieval period. The full footprint was not visible, however, and may be a later development to the site contemporary with the remodelling of the Tudor inner gatehouse.
