- This trench was positioned to investigated a partially characterised area to the east of the abbey, excavated in 1985 by English Heritage and interpreted as the location of the infirmary buildings (Kerr, forthcoming). Substantial impact was observed from ploughing and 'subsoiling' - an agricultural practice used to facilitate crop growth by breaking up the subsoil. All plough damage was recorded and the results contrasted with Brian Kerr's earlier investigation.
