  • Trench 1 was located close to the southern field boundary in the Northwest field and was excavated over two seasons in 2013 and 2014. The first stage of work in this trench in 2013 measured 20 metres by 4 metres and was positioned across a channel between two upstanding banks. Following backfilling, this trench was reopened and extended in 2014, with an area measuring 11.7 metres by 6.7 metres opened at its eastern end to determine the extent of discrete features in this area.
