Interpretation
-
- An incomplete iron double looped sword belt hanger dating 1500 – 1650 AD. The buckle has a strap bar dividing the buckle into two loops with a circular suspension loop set perpendicular at a 90° angle at the top. The frame is complete and has rounded outer edges. The metal has lost most of its original surface, is a mid-reddish-brown colour and is pitted. Although this buckle is iron the form and the function fits with the typology and it would probably originally have been gilded. Therefore it has been assigned to the early Post-medieval period.
