Interpretation
-
- Wrought iron frame of a rectangular buckle with rounded outer corners; probably from horse harness; with a square plain frame and an iron pin now broken wrapped round the bar. It is badly corroded and encrusted. Similar to SWYOR-7D33D5 and NLM-EDE167 This buckle frame is similar to late Medieval and Post-Medieval examples noted in London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: no. 430; Egan, 2005: no. 98), as well as Post-Medieval examples from Norwich (Margeson, 1993: no. 204) and similar to NLM-ede167 on the Portable Antiquities database. These indicate a possible 15th-17th century AD date for the current example, although a later date cannot be ruled out entirely.
