Narrative

    • Ditch Feature F103 was excavated by two interventions in 2013 and 2014, and had a similar profile and character to Ditch Feature F104. It extended NNW-SSE across Trench 1; it measured 0.65m wide and 0.35m deep and was defined by a ‘U’ shaped cut [1008 & 1037].

Dating Narrative

    • Filled by a homogenous, mid grey sandy clay (1009) containing disarticulated animal bone (including a fragmented horse phalanx and an amphibian element), one complete flake and two broken flakes characteristic of later Neolithic and Bronze Age reduction techniques, as well as by a mid grey-brown sandy silt (1038) containing disarticulated bone, pottery (12th Century Early Medieval Sandy Ware), flint flakes and CBM. The mixing of finds within this feature indicate its construction as a drainage ditch in the monastic period.
