- The Abbey Complex
- Trench 8 was positioned within the former monastic reredorter building – the southern-most part of the upstanding remains of the claustral complex. Measuring 4.40 x 1.60 metres and on a N-S orientation, the trench was located in an area formerly excavated in the 1980s (Fenwick 1985). With no published plans or archive report available for this work, the aim was to clear overgrown vegetation and topsoil, investigating whether the reconstructed drain (F801) built to assist with public interpretation in the 1980s, had any bearing on the actual course of the original monastic drain. Once exposed, the goal was to record the drain in plan and section and to recover dating evidence to help contextualise the use and modification of the building post-dissolution.
