Interpretation
-
- This represents a stone (probably square) foundation surface. This is unlikely to be a floor the stone producing an irregular surface but is abutting the robber trench. It might represent the place for a plinth of a column or be the foundation material of the apsidal wall which was not robbed away. The sandy level might than have been a flood event whichw ashed over this surface or acted as a compation layer evening the surface for construction.
