Interpretation

    • Internal floor make-up layer for the refectory. Due to the depth this is probably a levelling layer for the cellar floor. Truncated in the south east corner by cut [14004].

Description

  • Moderate to firm
  • Mid grey Brown mottled with white
  • Clay silt with chalk fragments and flint cobbles and pebbles.
  • Moderate Charcoal, small sub-rounded and sub angular pebbles.
  • Length - 2.00m Width - 2.50m Depth - 0.12m
  • Partially excavated in sondage: Length - 2.00m, Width 0.80m on east side of trench 14. Pottery: 1 piece of Midlands Blackware (P411) mid 16th - 17th Century and 1 piece of Glazed Red Earthenware (P425) 15th - 17th Century
  • Overcast and cloudy Mattock, trowel, shovel and spade
