Interpretation
-
- Layer of ditch fill present throughout most of ditch running N-S along eastern side of trench. Contained a lot of material, particularly pottery, including large amphora neck and handle. Is the same as the upper ditch fill present in 2021 trench 4 when ditch continues on same line

- Moderately loose
- Mid grey brown
- Clayey silt
- Occasional rounded and subangular stones, frequent small chalk rubble chips and occasional gravel
- In excavated slot: L: 2m+ W:0.80m D: 0.15m
- Hand ex with trowels in very warm and dry conditions
