Interpretation

- Copper alloy object, probably a belt or strap fitting dating to AD 300 to 500. It could be roman or early medieval. There is hole in the rounded terminal with the corroded remains of an iron rivet. The fitting is slightly arched, the back is flat and the object appears to have been gilded. Length 18mm, width 4mm; weight 0.37g. The object shares some similarities of form and attachment with bar mounts (NMS-306290, DOR-C27898 (PAS database)). it also shares some similarities with belt stiffeners (NMS-656311).
