- Small silver coin found in large dit mch running across trench 4
Interpretation
-
- A denarius (silver) of Severus Alexander dated to AD 227 (RIC IV 70). This coin was in good condition but there were patches of copper corrosion on the surface, possibly linked to the reduction of the silver purity in the coins minted at this time (Reece 2002, 20). Silver coins of Severus and Mammaea (his mother) are commonly found in Britain (Moorhead 2013).
