Interpretation
-
- Top capping layer of ditch fill that did feel very different to lower fill 4154 and contained a greater density of finds, particularly pottery. If lower fill represents a discrete levelling event associated with the construction of the wall, this upper fill looks to represent the destruction of the wall, with the line of the ditch catching some tumble and debris and seeing a finer spread eastwards towards the edge of the trench.
