Narrative

    • A robber trench dug to rob the wall of a Roman villa. The wall was in the northern area of Trench 4. It ran from the baulk south for 8.52m then made a right angled turn and headed west for 33m before making another right angled turn and headed north for 2.50m and hits the baulk again. It had a maximum width of 1.05m and a maximum depth of 0.39m. The robber trench was filled with a mix of limestone/chalk rubble and dark grey brown silty clay. Once it was removed earlier features were revealed, including enclosure ditch F978.
