Narrative

    • A large pit located in the north of trench 5, part of a pit cluster in that area. The pit cut two smaller pits, F#531 and F#533. The pit had a length of 2.70m, a width of 3.35m and a depth of 0.91m, it was circular, had steep sides and flat base which sloped towards the east. The pit contained four fills. At the base there was a 'dirty' natural (5135), possibly made up from contemporary trample to when the pit was in use, or maybe a slumping event before the pit was abandoned. This was a hard light yellowish brown silty chalk. This was followed by three large silting events, the first (5134) was a soft dark brownish grey silty clay, the second (5133) was a soft light greyish brown silty clay and the final fill (5064) was a soft mid greyish brown silty clay.
