Description

  • Body is lying on its back with its its right arm by its side and its left crosses over the pelvis so the hands are together. Body is straight in its grave.
  • Head is at the northern end of the grave lying upright however tilted forward to be looking down the body. This could show a pillow or object had been placed beneath the skull. A small Cu coin was found in situ placed on the chin, small find 36. A lot of the chin bone and teeth here appeared to have been stained green by the coin, see photos 1881 - 1887. This could be indicative of a medieval burial in which a coin was placed in the mouth however dating of the coin will tell more.
  • Right arm is by its side with the hand underneath the pelvis.
  • Left arm is by its side but the lower left arm crosses over to rest with the other hand underneath the pelvis. The hand appear to have been placed over the pelvis, but now the hands have decomposed to lie underneath.
  • Both legs lie straight next to each other.
  • Both legs lie straight rested next to each other
  • Feet bones are in good quality been all in tact, lying at the southern end of the cut.
  • Most of the bones are in good condition except all the ribs and spine which are in a very poor state of degeneration and we’re not possible to recover intact. It looks like they may have been crushed. The skull is also fragmentary from degeneration.
  • Block lifted skull. Most bones except ribs and spine recovered intact
  • Photogrammetry no’s: 1777 - 1880, Record photo no’s: 1881 - 1895. Samples <54> <55> <56> <57> Taken from this burial.
