Short Description:
Skeleton in burial [6007].
Issued to
Henry Callender | 19/12/2019
1387

Interpretation

    • SK6130 is largely not intact, missing the spine, ribs, left arm, shoulders and feet. At either end of the grave, there appears to be some very thin gully's that truncate the burial. These are likely plough marks but could be drainage gully's. The presence of these gully's could be the reason parts of the skeleton is missing/ damaged. Similar position and alignment to nearby skeleton 6129. A number of other burials appear to be in the area however have not yet been excavated. Likely part of a cemetery.

Description

  • NE - SW aligned body, in supine position, with arms lying by its side. Most of the body is missing, however due to the depth the skeleton is within the grave cut, it is clear that only the top of the skull has been truncated by the machine, meaning the rest of the body has been truncated by other features. The entire left arm, rib cage, shoulders and spine are missing, as well as the feet at the NW end of the grave. A few random parts of the spine were found dis-articulated around the skeleton, including by the feet. Likely from later disturbances to the grave.
  • Head is at the SW end of the grave, facing up. The top of the skull has been hit during machine stripping however part of the damage may be from truncation by other features.
  • Humerus, radius and ulna, remain, lying by the side of the body, in supine position. A few finger bones have been found dis-articulated around the skeleton.
  • Left arm and hand not present.
  • Right leg intact, lying straight.
  • Left leg intact, lying straight.
  • Not present.
  • Remaining bones were in good condition, however most of the skeleton is missing, or fragmentary.
  • Good condition.
