  • Trench 7 was a 10m x 2m trench facing North-South in the middle of the site. This trench was placed to target southern part of possible enclosure ditch identified through a magnetometer survey conducted in 2013. It also covers the eastern 'trackway' ditch in the North of the trench and a curved ditch feature in the South of the trench identified through the magnetometer survey. Topsoil from the trench was removed via JCB, all subsequent feature were hand cleaned and excavated using mattocks and trowels. Once the topsoil was removed 5 areas were targeted for further excavation. The ditch feature in the North of the trench (f703), the enclosure ditch (f702), a stone drain (f704), and two pits/posthole in the south of the trench (f701 & f705). F701, f705 & f703 were excavated to show the feature in section. F702 was not fully excavated as a spring with clear water was filling the ditch. The circular anomaly identified by geophysics in the south of trench was not identified during the excavations.
