Interpretation
-
- Upper fill of a pit or post pit in the middle of the south of trench 4. Within this fill a number of special finds were recovered including 2 pieces of quern stone that fit together (SF25 and 26) that also join with a further piece (SF27) that was seen in the layer (4118). Another piece of quern that may join but currently hasn't been checked (SF32) was also found in the top of this fill. Other notable finds were SF18, a near complete vessel that was standing upright and looks to have been placed within the pit, and SF19, a copper alloy coin possibly of the emperor Trajan. There was also fragments of another vessel in amongst the large stones in the top of the fill that potentially fit together. Other pot sherds were predominantly in the top of this fill.
